Celeb no show!

It was a very slow beginning to the first day at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2010. The first show was Rocky S and surprise, suprise… there were no celebrity guests! Usually media persons fight for seats but this time around the organisers had to request journos to move to the front row! Arrgh… an empty front row on the very first day (considering a prominent designer like Rocky S was showcasing) will have tongues wagging!

A lukewarm collection

The designer presented a bridal collection in soft hues of rose pink, lemon yellow, cyan blue, ivory white, nudes, beige and black. Off shoulder kurtas, short kurtis, saris, tiered lehengas with scallops were embellished with Swarovski crystals and semi precious stones. Rocky explained that he wanted to keep the embroidery minimal because he did not want the clothes to be bared down by heavy work.

While it was not a traditional bridal collection thanks to the summer resort theme [since Rocky used soft colours over the usual deep reds and greens], it was still not avant-garde and quite typically Rocky.

The bling

Queenie who designed the diamond jewellery (for Gianitti) worn by the models also decided to keep the jewellery minimal so that they don't overshadow the clothes. Queenie was quick to share that she and Rocky worked hand in hand to design the jewellery and clothes so that there was a balance. Most models wore simple earrings but each had a head band studded with diamonds.

Showstopping Bipasha

There had to be a showstopper! Bipasha, a close friend of Rocky, sashayed down the ramp in a sari and dupatta around her neck.

This is what Rocky had to say about Bips: "I have known Bipasha ever since she started modelling and she is a dear friend. I understand her body language and I know that she has never worn this colour before - beige with lemon yellow. So, when I made her wear this sari she told me, 'Rocky you know I never wear this colour so how am I going to be able to carry it off as a showstopper.' But I asked her to trust me and she did and she looked stunning! Bipasha is a very simple person yet she is very out there. So, she has this very two-toned personality that is very appealing. I design for women who don't let go of their traditions yet have very strong personalities."

Bipasha was also wearing a statement necklace designed by Queenie Singh that was dripping with diamonds and studded with massive rubies.

Unfortunately, Bipasha's make-up made her look washed out. As for the colour of her ensemble, it didn't seem to do much for her, though Rocky thought it did. Besides, couldn't they have done something better with her hair?
