She stopped everyone's hearts with the goal she saved in Chak De India! Critics said she looked hotter than Minnisha Lamba in Kidnap. Vidya Malvade may not have the best prolific resume but with every film she is making sure she leaves an indelible mark with the audience. Will her character in Striker do the same? We find out...

What is Striker about?

The movie depicts the underbelly of Mumbai and is based on true life accounts. And all the characters in the movie, including the protagonist, are resolved to fight the odds that come their way to achieve success in the city of dreams, Mumbai.

What is your character in the movie?

I'm playing a character called Devi who’s a simple middle class girl. She is a brilliant student and has got her head screwed right on her shoulders. She is not like other dreamy girls who live in hope of someone dropping a bomb on them saying "HEY, you’re going to be an actress..." Devi knows exactly how her life is going to map out and she is determined to survive against any odds.

Were there any indomitable odds in your real life that you overcame?

Overcoming odds is an ongoing process. Sometimes every single day is a battle! Although the hardships are of varying degrees but struggling is something that NEVER stops. I have struggled really hard for everything in my life, from the first bicycle I got, to the last movie I signed, it has never been easy.

So how did you succeed? What’s your funda for life?

NEVER GIVE UP, that’s my funda. I went through so many lows before Chak De India! came. There were times when I shouted and screamed, enough is enough, I can't take it, but God didn’t listen. It’s later that I found out that he had different plans, plans which were better than mine. So yeah God is great and I believe I’m his favourite child.

Was one of God's plans to turn you from air-hostess to actress?

Could be. As an air-hostess I had to work one week and the next week was off. One day someone asked me if I would like to work in a hair commercial. Since the money offered was good, I agreed. One thing led to another and the rest as they say… is history.

What would be your dream role?

I have just started so there is nothing in particular I would like to do. I want to try everything, play every role. There is so much to do that choosing one role over other would be wrong. I am damn greedy besides I’m in this industry not only because of the money, I’m here because I looove it here.

So which genre of movies do you love?

C'mon not it's not the kind of question you should ask an actor. If you didn’t hear it already, let me repeat, I’m greedy, greedy, GREEDY. I want to work in all the genres - from action to comedy to thrillers to love stories to romcoms and just about EVERYTHING.

So should I dare ask which one actor you would like to work with after Sanjay Dutt and SRK?

No don’t. (Laughs) I would love to shoot with everyone. John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Imran Khan…you name it and I want to work with them. I want to do movies with prominent characters, I want to do movies that people will fall in love with...

In short you're greedy, right?

Yes!
