Day 3 at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2010 started with talented designer Amalraj Sengupta's bare-chested model unfolding a jhola bag and wearing it as a jacket. It was a day full of surprises with high powered glamour and stunning showstoppers.

Fashion take-aways:

Armour and military is hot! The designers depicted this trend by creating armour-like capped sleeves that jutted out.

Tribal trends inspired by Africa will rule summer resort. So, accessorise with feather and beads and get wild with animal prints.

It's the return of colour - fuschia, bright yellow, flaming orange, turquoise blue, spring green, coral and shades of violet. If the colour rush is too heady, cool off with ivory, grey, beige and black.

The silhouettes are not too fluid but fabrics gracefully fall on the body and so you can chill out on the beach.

Day 3 at a glance

Designers Hanrangad Singh and Vijay Balhara debuted with very wearable and feminine collection for women. Anand Bhushan did a deviation from the resort theme and presented an autumn-winter collection instead. Neelanjan Ghosh experimented with deconstruction while Asmita Marwa kept it simple and comfortable with her resort collection. Swapnil Shinde and Narendra Kumar created their vision of the futuristic dressing with edgy clothes, Shantanu and Nikhil designed a very affordable (prices starting from Rs 500) sportswear line for Adidas. But, it was designer Malini Ramani who stole the day with her uber glamourous luxury resort line called Journey of Love.

Let's take a look at the trends that ruled Day 3:

Transformed into clothes

Transformers was a creative force for designers Swapnil Shinde and Amalraj Sengupta. While Shinde was inspired by Transformers - the videogame, Sengupta was influenced by the movie.

Sengupta's garments can be literally 'transformed' to accessories and separates like jackets. He used pure linen to create dresses, shorts, tunics with slits shifted to the front panel, trousers, in-cut tops in a basic colour palette of white, grey and blue. The clothes can be worn all year round, are eco friendly and also provide protection from UV rays [apparently]! The audience loved his clothes and we are certain it's going to be sold out before we know it!

Shinde, on the other hand, used a lot of acrylic embellishments, for fitted dresses with a futuristic edge. The clothes were strong and sexy and will be very good for magazine shoots. A woman with a very strong personality will be able to carry them off, but they are not meant for those who shy away from experimentation.

Futuristic fashion

Futuristic fashion was the main theme for Narendra Kumar's denim collection for Killer Jeans inspired by the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. It was a very structured collection with garments that had multi-panelled sleeves, conical panels that jutted out from the hips and waist and daring bustiers that showed off the midriff. He mixed denim with neon and sportswear net fabrics for his unisex collection. Along with the clothes, the make-up was also very edgy with dark lipsticks and strong eye shadows.

Embrace the future now!

So comfy and boho

Asmita Marwa's clothes had a easy, relaxed feeling with a loose fit, asymmetrical hemline, plaids and block prints in cotton. There were skirts, jumpsuits, halter sun dresses, strappy maxis, draped tops and ponchos that made her collection perfect for summer. She kept the cuts simple so that her clothes appeal to most sensibilities.

However, Neelanjan Ghosh who experimented with deconstruction designed clothes that bordered on boho but stood out with the motifs of colonial Kolkata. The clothes had clever layering techniques with double lapels shirts, cowl pants, embroidered dresses that had a very old-world Raj feel.

Both designers created garments that were essentially Indian but it wasn't in-your-face with saris or kurtas and typical Indian motifs.

Sporty is in!

Shantanu and Nikhil's showstopper Deepika Padukone, in black balloon shorts, black and yellow striped sleeveless tops said, "Sporty is always in for me. In fact this was the first time I didn't feel nervous walking the ramo because I was wearing sportswear. I was dancing backstage. My fashion mantra is wearing anything that makes me feel confident and for me confidence is sexy!"

Maybe, that's why she made us feel that nobody has ever looked as gorgeous in sportswear as Deepika.

The designer duo presented a unisex collection for Adidas called Moto Chic with racy shorts, jumpsuits, dresses and tops with hoodies all in hues of yellow and black.

The female power

Harangad Singh unveiled a collection full of lady-like dresses in soft colours like pale pink, pearl white, and olive green. He used organza to give it an almost fairy-like touch and pleating techniques for the right fit. There were butterfly motifs and minimal sequin embroidery that added that hint of shimmer. A very wearable, simple and stylish collection!

Dash of glamour

Perhaps no designer can really stitch glamour into clothes like Malini Ramani! She is a beach girl and almost all her clothes reflected her love for the sun, sea and sand. Her collection, sponsored by Grey Goose, was inspired by the brand's cocktails. There was Mexican Martini that spilled over into Malini's clothes with Mayan and Aztec inspired colours and motifs. Indian summer inspired clothes were boho with Rajasthani threadwork, mirrorwork and shell embellishments. Zanzibar temptation had African influences with zebra stripes and African beads. Finally Bombabe was all about Mumbai.

Showstoppers Maheep Kapoor, Bhawna Pandey, Mehr Jessia Rampal and the designer herself graced the ramp in dull gold gowns.
