Atithi draws audience, Road loses trac
| Amongst the five releases of the week, Ajay Devgan’s Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? was the only film that sustained at the box-office. With no good comedies in recent times, Atithi was a welcome change for audiences in mood for light-hearted entertainment. With the comedy not being of slapstick variety, the film got a decent opening on Friday and the business only got better over the weekend steadily increasing till Sunday. As per trade circles, the opening weekend collections should be somewhere around Rs 13 cr. The only other potential release of the week was Abhay Deol’s offbeat Road, Movie which sadly couldn’t live up to the huge hype surrounding it. Dev Benegal’s direction was too arty and abstract with an incoherent storyline and a pretentious plot that lead to nowhere. The film didn’t make much sense and even the intellects seemed to have ignored the film leaving it to poor collections which couldn’t even cross the crore mark across India. Irfan Kamal’s well-made film Thanks Maa won critical appeal but the applause couldn’t translate into good business for the film. Sumeet Saigal’s horror-flick Rokkkk is struggling at single screens but ironically had a big bash on Monday claiming to celebrate its success. Hello Zindagi left without a trace. |
