The government on Friday appointed all the judges of the superior courts on vacant posts on the advice of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry. Mr Zardari had earlier defied the Chief Justice’s recommendations and tried to appoint judges of his own choice. The Supreme Court however, suspended his notification giving birth to a major judicial crises that shook the PPP-led government. "The government has accepted the decision of apex court with regard to the judges’ appointment with an open heart," Mr Zardari told a meeting of the PPP core-committee at the presidency on Friday night. Briefing the reporters after the meeting, Mr Zardari’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting reviewed in depth the developments of the last two days.
"The meeting expressed satisfaction over the manner in which the matter of judges’ appointment was addressed and resolved," Mr Babar said.
The spokesman said that the meeting was of the unanimous view that a heavy political, democratic and economic agenda awaited the government for implementation. The meeting expressed the view that social and political stability is essential for the pursuit of the agenda before the government.
Meanwhile, Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry has said that justice will be done in compliance with the Constitution and law. Addressing the meeting on judges’ judicial policy here, Mr Chaudhry appreciated the role of justice Saqib Nisar and justice Khawaja Sharif for not taking oath under Mr Zardari’s previous notification.
He said that now no judge of the Supreme Court will take oath against the Constitution.
Justice Chaudhry said that the new judges were appointed on merit and now a heavy responsibility lies on the shoulders of the judiciary.
