They are like the milk for our chocolate chip cookies (read, when they are sweet), at the same time, they are the ones who make us want to pull out our hair in frustration (for what other reason was hair-fall shampoo invented?)Yes, we're talking about the male species, who we end up saying yes to when they fall on their knees and pop the question, making full use of the 'puppy-face' syndrome. So, now that we're stuck with them, and have to adjust and sacrifice a lot of things that we never had to during our fun singlehood. For instance, the amount of time we spend with our friends decreases, 'sorry' becomes one of our most used words and even the clothes we wear become an issue, yeah well, that's guys for you! But our main concern is - how they influence us when it comes to our walk-in closets….or just closets :P And how do their preferences affect our desire to change in order to please them? We asked a couple of our iDiva regulars to say a thing or two about how much men influence the way they dress:
Yes he does! My boyfriend is really into what's in and what's out, sometimes I think he's a chick in disguise. If he doesn't like what I'm wearing, he'll say it and sometimes even put it bluntly [which I hate!]. He has influenced the way I dress, because whenever I go shopping, I always think about what he'll like on me. An approval from him definitely boosts my confidence level and I know for sure I'm looking good. He's like Vogue for me, the only approval that matters. It may sound stupid but he really has impeccable taste.- Roxanne D, 20, Writer
Before I started dating my boyfriend, I used to always wear shorts and skirts. But he comes from a conservative family, so even he doesn't like me wearing these clothes. Visits to his house are always a pain because I have to make sure I'm covered from head to toe. He does influence what I buy and wear because I've had to add more salwars and long-sleeved shirts and stuff like that to my closet. I don't really have a say because if I want to be with him, that's the way I have to dress.- Andrea Gomes, 29, Marketing Manager
Just to keep him happy He doesn't influence the way I dress at all. Only during certain occasions like when meeting with his friends, I'll wear what he prefers. But he's not dominating that way.- Geeta Roy, 25, Media Student
The chances of him influencing me is remote. Though he has very good taste, I only prefer what I like. If he wants me to wear something which I don't agree to, then just to keep him happy I will perhaps wear it only once!- Grishma Vasani, 28, Teacher
I don't care No, he doesn't tell me what to wear. If he likes what I'm wearing he'll tell me otherwise he won't say a word. If he ever tells me he doesn't like what I'm wearing, I'll show him the door.- Natasha P, 21, Student
My boyfriend hates the way I dress because he has different tastes. I'm very boho that way and like doing my own thing. We have constant arguments about what I should be wearing but frankly I don't really care. I like doing my own thing whether he likes it or not. I get compliments from other guys too, so it doesn't matter to me.- Jasvinder Lall, 27, Event Organiser
He doesn't care Even if I go over the top, wear make-up, style my hair and wear a fabulous dress, it will go unnoticed. He really doesn't care about what I wear. To him, dressing-up means wearing a shirt instead of a T-shirt. I'm so used to it by now, that I dress for myself. In a way it's good because my friends always complain that their boyfriend's tell them what to wear and what not to. But it's kind of annoying too because he never really has an opinion even if I want him to notice that I made an extra effort to look good.- Komal Hajare, 23, Medical Student
So there you have it. The good, the bad and the ugly.
We figured that it's okay once in a while to wear what he likes but it's also important to be yourself and dress up the way you want to. If you don't mind wearing what he wants you to wear and you look good in it, then it's okay.
But lady, if you absolutely hate it, then we have a serious problem here! Just remember that it's your opinion that matters the most when it comes to being comfortable with yourself.
We'd love to hear what the rest of you have to say, so leave us a comment and let us know.
